Obviously yes, he broke the law, he's going to pay for it. But the "problem" as I see it, is that if you sign up for something or sign a contract under a pretense that you believe what you're doing is justified and then that changes, you're going to feel a lot worse about killing someone if you don't really believe in the cause for which you are killing. I would not enjoy killing anyone, but if I had to I'd at least make sure it was for the right reasons. And if your view changes you really only have 2 options, flee or fight and end up killing people for a cause which you believe is not moral... it's a major conflict of human interest.
