Yes but there's a certain cannabiniod that also retards the hallucinogenic effect; in eight years of smoking pot (heavily and regularly) I've had one bout of hallucinations the first time I smoked out of a bong. The cancer drug that's made from synthetic THC has a bigger hallucination effect as it doesn't have these cannabinoids to counter act that effect and is a reason that some patients don't like it. And really, is the paranoia coming from knowing that what you're doing is illegal? Is it because you're afraid of what others are going to think of you smoking? Or that they might rat on you? There's a lot of outside social pressures that could also induce paranoia and anxiety. I'm not saying its not possible to have those effects from smoking, but that these outside pressures can greatly increase them. We're not uneducated on the fact, its that most of the habitual smokers don't have this reaction.
